Path of excellence - Master's Degree Course in Law

1. DEFINITION AND PURPOSE

The Path of Excellence is a training course intended for particularly deserving students enrolled in the master's degree course in Law at the University of Foggia, aimed at training strategic professional figures for the University and of particular importance for the socio-economic context of the territory .

Through the personalization of the training process and the carrying out of additional activities, which may include participation in internships, internships, international mobility programs and/or programs for the achievement of double qualifications or joint qualifications, the Excellence Path aims to encourage the acquisition of knowledge, skills and abilities useful for increasing the ability to orient oneself in an international context, to undertake a professional specialization or to start research training, improving the possibilities of profitable placement of Law graduates in:

  1. leading law firms, companies and associations of a multinational or transnational nature;
  2. national, community and international research institutions;
  3. national and supranational bodies and organizations.

 

2. ACCESS AND STAY REQUIREMENTS

Students in the second year of the master's degree in Law who, by the end of the previous academic year, have acquired at least 40 credits, reporting a weighted average of no less than 27/30, with rounding to the nearest higher unit of the fraction of a point greater than 0.50.

The Department Council may authorize the enrollment in the Excellence Path of students enrolled in the third year, provided that by the end of the previous academic year they have acquired at least 88 ECTS with a weighted average of no less than 27/30, rounded to the nearest whole number. higher in the case of a fraction of a point greater than 0.50.

Enrollment takes place upon application by the interested party, to be submitted to the Student Secretariat between 1st and 31st October. The registration deadline can be extended by resolution of the Department Council. The withdrawal can be presented, with the same methods and terms, in each of the following academic years.
The student who, at the beginning of each academic year following the second, has not acquired all the credits from the previous years and at least half of the credits relating to the last year of enrollment and who has achieved an average grade, will automatically lose his/her enrolment. weighted less than 27/30, with rounding to the nearest whole number in the case of a fraction of a point greater than 0.50. To this end, the CFU and the results of the verification tests relating to the additional activities required for the purposes of the Excellence Path pursuant to the following art. are not taken into account. 3.

In case of renunciation or forfeiture, the student cannot request readmission to the Excellence Path.

 

3. ADDITIONAL TRAINING ACTIVITIES

Participation in the Path of Excellence entails the obligation to carry out additional training activities in addition to the curricular activities, meaning the activities required to obtain the master's degree in Law, for a total of 300 ECTS credits.

The additional activities required for the completion of the Excellence Path as a whole must correspond to a total of no less than 40 ECTS.

The CFU relating to additional activities can be acquired through:

  • passing the verification tests, if applicable different from the exam, relating to further courses, even if belonging to SSDs not foreseen by the teaching regulations of the degree course, or borrowed from another University under an agreement with the University of Foggia , pursuant to art. 22, co. 5, of the University Teaching Regulations;
  • other training activities referred to in the art. 20 of the University Teaching Regulations, such as by way of example:
  1. internships and internships
  2. seminar activities for which the acquisition of CFU is expected
  3. language certifications, up to a maximum of 10 credits
  4. final dissertation or abstract of at least 20,000 words in a foreign language, provided that they are written for the purpose of obtaining a double degree or a joint degree, up to a maximum of 10 CFU.

The additional training activities are free to choose, but must be consistent with the personal curriculum, in relation to the specific purpose of the Path of Excellence undertaken by the student. The methods and limits of the recognition of the related credits, if not regulated by the study course Regulations, are established by the Department Council.

 

4. INDIVIDUAL STUDY PLAN

The student enrolled in the Excellence Path annually presents an individual study plan of the curricular activities required to obtain the master's degree in Law, which specifies the teachings relating to similar or supplementary activities envisaged by the educational system of the course of study, for a total of 24 ECTS, as well as courses freely chosen by the student, for a total of 12 ECTS. To this end, courses borrowed from another University under an agreement with the University of Foggia may also be indicated, in accordance with art. 22, co. 5 of the University Teaching Regulations.

Without prejudice to the regime applicable to students participating in international mobility programs, the individual study plan may provide for the anticipation of courses scheduled for subsequent years of the course, up to a maximum limit of 36 ECTS. For proven needs, in this case an exemption from the rules regarding preparatory work may be granted.

The terms and methods of submitting the individual study plan are governed by the rules in force on the matter for all students.

This remains without prejudice to, for activities other than those referred to in the art. 3 above, compliance with the maximum number of exams established by current legislation.

 

5. COMMISSION FOR THE EXCELLENCE PROGRAM AND INDIVIDUAL TUTOR

Without prejudice to the competences of the Department Council and the joint teaching commission, a special Commission, called the Commission for the Excellence Path, has been established to assist the student enrolled in the Excellence Path and supervise the implementation of the discipline relating to it.

The Commission is appointed by the Department Council and is made up of at least five teachers. At the discretion of the Commission, each student may be assigned an individual tutor, appointed by the Department Council from among the teachers belonging to it.

The Commission for the Path of Excellence, in addition to any functions delegated by the Council, carries out the following tasks:

  1. assists the student in choosing the training activities to be included in the individual study plan and the additional activities required for the Excellence Path, verifying their coherence;
  2. proposes to the Council the approval of the individual study plan and any changes;
  3. expresses an opinion on the number of credits recognizable for the training activities referred to in the art. 3 above, if they are not governed by the study course Regulations;
  4. guides the student in the choice of locations where to carry out activities such as Erasmus stays, internships, internships, mobility programs for the purpose of obtaining double or joint degrees, etc.;
  5. takes care, in agreement with the Orientation Delegate, of initiatives aimed at promoting the job placement of undergraduates and graduates who have completed the Path of Excellence.
  6. A student representative, appointed by the Department Council from among those enrolled in the Excellence Path, participates in the Commission's work, with a deliberative vote on the subjects referred to in no. 3 above.

 

6. CONCLUSION OR INTERRUPTION OF THE PATH TO EXCELLENCE

The student completes the Path of Excellence when he has acquired at least 40 additional credits compared to what is required to obtain the master's degree in Law, through the activities referred to in the art. 3 above.

The Regulations for the final exam govern the evaluation of the Path of Excellence when assigning the degree grade.

Students who have renounced completion of the Excellence Path or who have lapsed due to failure to meet the permanence requirements are entitled to recognition of the CFU relating to the activities carried out, where possible and to the greatest extent permitted for the purposes of the curricular path to obtain the master's degree in Law. The further activities carried out and the corresponding CFU acquired remain recorded in the individual career.

7. TRANSITIONAL REGIME

Limited to students already enrolled in the 2016/2017 academic year, on first application it is possible to access the Excellence Path at the end of the second year of the course, provided that by 15 October 2017 the student has acquired at least 88 ECTS with a weighted average that does not it can be less than 27/30, with rounding up to the nearest whole number in the case of a fraction of a point greater than 0.50.
