Study abroad

The Erasmus+ Programme allows students to spend a period of study at a university in one of the Programme countries, which has signed a bilateral agreement with the University of Foggia.

The Erasmus+ student, who may receive an EU mobility grant or only benefit from the Erasmus status (without a grant), has the opportunity to follow course units and use the facilities available at the host university without paying additional tuition fees. Erasmus+ students are guaranteed the recognition of the study period abroad through the transfer of credits.

In this regard, please note that the University of Foggia has adopted Regulations for the recognition of study periods spent abroad, to which you are referred for further information.

The Erasmus+ Programme enables students to enjoy cultural experiences abroad, familiarise with different Higher Education systems, improve their knowledge of at least one extra language and meet young people from other countries, thus actively contributing to the development of an increasingly united Europe.

Student mobility regulations

Everything relating to teaching is the responsibility of the Erasmus+ Delegate Professor of the Department, while the administrative/accounting part is the responsibility of the International Relations Sector.

It is the student's responsibility to visit the website of the foreign university to which they will go, to obtain the necessary information on the disciplines to be followed abroad and on the semesters (1st or 2nd) in which these are taught and to find all the information necessary for correctly completing the Learning Agreement (Study Contract to be followed abroad). Only in this way can it be decided in which semester to carry out the study period abroad.

The student must also agree with the Erasmus+ Delegate Professor of the Department the study program to be carried out abroad, taking into account the disciplines activated at the foreign University during the period of use of the scholarship.

The Learning Agreement must be completed in its entirety and signed by the student and the Erasmus+ Department Delegate.

The forms for registration formalities and the necessary information are available on the website of each foreign university. The student must send, within the times and in the manner indicated, to the chosen University:

  • Application Form (registration form)
  • Learning Agreement
  • Accommodation Form (if applicable)
  • further documentation possibly requested by the foreign University

The student must present himself at the International Relations Sector to sign the financial contract with the documents indicated below:

  • Learning Agreement correctly completed and including all signatures
  • Self-certification of bank details for crediting the scholarship

Upon signing, the student will be given the following documents attached to the contract:

  • certificate of permanence
  • template for the Erasmus+ student's individual report
  • Erasmus+ student card
  • forms for any extension of mobility
  • paper copy of this memo

Health coverage abroad

If you already have the Health Card - Regional Services Card, no compliance is necessary as this card replaces the previous E111 or E128 models useful for health coverage abroad. Otherwise, once the contract has been signed, the student will have to go with it to the relevant ASL to be issued the replacement form of the Health Card - Regional Services Card.

It is necessary:

  • report immediately to the International Relations Office of the foreign university, which will proceed with the registration of the student. This operation must be carried out with the utmost promptness in order to record the exact starting date of the study period. To obtain payment of the financial contribution, the student must have the first section of the Certificate of Permanence filled in and signed and then sent by fax or scanned by email to the International Relations Sector (0039 0881 338 343 – relint@unifg.it) within the first week from arrival at the foreign location
  • contact the tutor professor at the host university to start your study period

Please remember that any changes relating to the content of the Learning Agreement must be agreed with your Department's Erasmus+ Delegate and with the Delegate Professor of the foreign University, in time to be able to attend and take the relevant exam. For any changes to the study plan, the appropriate form present in the forms section of the International Relations Sector website must always be used. Any form that arrives without the signatures of the responsible teachers will not be taken into consideration in any way.

An early return or a possible extension of the study period can only take place if authorized. The student must, in good time, contact the International Relations Sector to communicate the need to make a change in the duration of the stay abroad. The request for a possible extension period must be made at least one month before the end of the study period abroad, by sending the appropriate form including the request and authorization signatures to the International Relations Sector.

PLEASE NOTE

Study periods shorter than 3 months by even a single day - the minimum foreseen for the duration of a mobility grant - are considered null and void and lead to the cancellation of the Erasmus+ student status and the refund of any sums received.

Nearing the end of the study period abroad

It is necessary:

  • communicate the date of your departure to the International Relations Office of the host University and have the second part of the Certificate of Permanence completed, to be delivered to the International Relations Sector upon return. This certificate does not replace the final certificate of attendance issued by the International Relations Office of the host university.
  • ask the tutor teacher or the competent office for an official transcript (Transcript of Records) showing the subjects taken, the credits obtained and the results achieved.

Extension module

Submit to the International Relations Sector, within 10 days from the date indicated on the final attendance certificate:

  • original certificate of residence
  • final certificate of attendance, issued in original by the International Relations Office of the host University, in which the period of stay at the foreign University must be clearly indicated (mobility start date / mobility end date)
  • final relation
  • copy of the Transcript of Records issued by the foreign University.
  • Failure to submit the aforementioned documents will result in the cancellation of the Erasmus+ student status.

Please remember that the Erasmus+ contribution consists of monthly payments and that it is not possible to pay fractions of monthly payments; in the event that the period of stay abroad includes a fraction of a month, this will be approximated to a month if equal to 15 days while it will not be considered if less than 15 days.

The Diploma Supplement (DS) is a document supplementing the official qualification obtained at the end of a course of study at a university or higher education institution. The DS provides a description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies carried out and completed by the student according to a standard 8-point model, developed on the initiative of the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO .

Reference legislation

The Diploma Supplement was introduced into the Italian university system by Ministerial Decree 509 of 1999, article 11, paragraph 8, and kept in force by Ministerial Decree no. 270 of 2004 in the same article and paragraph.

The ECTS scale is a tool that facilitates the transfer of academic results (expressed in terms of grades) between different national assessment systems. It is adopted by the universities of the countries belonging to the European Higher Education Area, making it possible to convert the grades of one country into grades of another country, according to rules shared at European level.
The different national evaluation systems are related to each other through the ECTS scale, which is unique and which compares the statistical distributions of marks in the different systems.

The ECTS scale is constructed on the basis of the results obtained by a homogeneous group of students in a given period of time, according to the following rule:

  • the grade A corresponds to the grades obtained by the best 10% of students
  • the B grade corresponds to the votes obtained by the next 25%
  • the grade C corresponds to the grades obtained by the next 30%
  • the D grade corresponds to the votes obtained by the next 25%
  • the grade E corresponds to the grades obtained from the final 10%.

In the national systems, each value of the ECTS scale corresponds to a more or less wide range of grades.
It is important to underline that the ECTS scale allows the transfer of grades only between universities in countries belonging to the European Higher Education Area.
In other countries, different voting systems exist and often coexist, but no general mechanisms for the conversion of votes similar to the ECTS one have been defined.

The Italian credit system

Italian university training credits (CFU) are equivalent to ECTS credits. Each CFU is equivalent to 25 hours of work (lessons, seminars, individual study). For each academic year, a student studying full-time is required to work for an average amount of 60 credits, i.e. 1500 hours. Credits are acquired by passing the exam or other verification test.

Credits therefore define the quantity of work; the quality of the student's performance is instead documented by a grade, expressed in thirtieths for the exam or other type of test and in one hundred and tenths for the final test, with possible honours. The maximum grade that the student can obtain is 30; a grade from 30 to 26 reflects a very good/good evaluation in terms of learning outcomes; a grade from 25 to 18 reflects a satisfactory/sufficient assessment in terms of learning outcomes; 18 is the minimum mark to pass the exam.

The Erasmus University Charter (EUC) allows universities to participate in the Socrates/Erasmus program and to request community contributions annually for the implementation of Erasmus activities (mobility of students, teachers, technical/administrative staff, mobility for placement, etc. ..).
The Charter is a certificate containing the fundamental principles of all Erasmus activities and can be withdrawn in case of non-compliance or violation of the established conditions
The University of Foggia currently has an extended EUC valid until 2014 whose number is:

The term "Double/Joint Degrees" indicates integrated curriculum courses that include a training course designed with other foreign universities and periods of mobility for students and teachers. After the final exam, two or more national qualifications from the partner universities are awarded (double or multiple qualification) or a single qualification recognized and validated by all the universities involved (joint qualification).
